Hi this is our Blog on Grace. We hope and pray that the Grace of God will flood into your life like it has ours. A good place to start is to listen to the mp3 messages, they will not only turn your world around, you will feel like you have just been saved all over again!

What is the Law??

I love Wayne's preach on "What the law can and cannot do"
When I first heard Rob preach this message a while ago it was so liberating and at the same time raised many questions ...... as any good preach should.

The biggest question was, " Well what is the Law?"

The bible is very clear that the 'law' is the law given to Mosses and the Jews under the old covenant. What got me in a knot was when I would hear that the law was anything that that I did to earn or impress. A standard I had to try and achieve to prove or maintain my maturity in Christ. (don't get me wrong about maturity .... I have learned that it is the Holy Spirit that works in me that develops maturity, and even then I think it is more about a transformed mind than actions ...... the whole 'conforming without transforming is preforming')

Its is here that I think people / churches miss the Grace God gives us.
You can believe in grace and what Christ has done for you, but to what extent does His Grace work in your life?

Has Christ freed you from the Law of Mosses?
Has Christ freed you from 'ceremonial' or 'ethical' law?
Or are the 'ceremonial' & 'ethical' laws old covenant laws and fulfilled in Christ?
Is the 'new testament standard' a description or a prescription and a law in your life?

There are so many of these questions, and the more you dig the more legalistic you find this church culture that we live in.

What are your thoughts on this? What do you think is legalistic and the law?

Part 1 Law and Works:
I quoted the scripture below to try and show that law and works are seen as one and the same.

Rom 3v27 Where [is] boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law of faith. 28Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law.

Rom 11v6 And if by grace, then [it is] no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if [it is] of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.

Rob deals with what you wrote on this post beautifully at the beginning of "Invading the Impossible 9 - Invading by Reigning" http://www.citychurchinternational.net/mp3_2/2008_03_09.zip

Part 2 What Law:

Colossians 2v14 Blotting out1813 the3588 handwriting5498 of ordinances1378 that was against2596 us,2257 which3739 was2258 contrary5227 to us,2254 and2532 took142 it846 out of1537 the3588 way,3319 nailing4338 it846 to his cross;4716

ordinances1378 = G1378 d?´?µa dogma dog'-mah

From the base of G1380; a law (civil, ceremonial or ecclesiastical): - decree, ordinance

It means ALL the law

Great post. Also look forward to reading further comments.
