3Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; 4so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. 5After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
Interestingly, it says in the beginning of verse 4 "SO"....which means because Jesus 1. KNEW the Father had put everything under him 2. He KNEW where he had come from and 3. He KNEW where he was going...he was able to serve the others by washing their feet...ie because he was SO SURE OF HIS IDENTITY...he was able to operate as he did..that he was SO SURE OF HIS POSITION/SONSHIP.. he was able to "stoop" down to even wash feet...nothing was below him.
